What changes from HEIC to BMP

QualityNo further loss: BMP keeps every pixel as it looks now
Camera details and locationLeft out: the BMP is saved without them
File sizeUsually larger: BMP compresses less tightly than HEIC

When to use BMP: Older Windows software, simple paint programs and tools that expect raw, uncompressed pixels.

The two formats

.heic · .heif

HEIC photoHigh Efficiency Image File Format

Photos compressed with HEVC (H.265) inside the HEIF container, an MPEG standard. Apple made it the iPhone camera default with iOS 11 in 2017, and files are often about half the size of a JPEG.

Photos taken on iPhones and iPads, and on some Android phones and cameras.

Opens in Photos and Preview on Mac, Windows Photos with the HEIF extension, Lightroom

About HEIC files

.bmp

BMP imageWindows Bitmap

Microsoft’s bitmap format from the early days of Windows. It usually stores pixels uncompressed, so quality is exact but files are large.

Older Windows software, simple paint programs and tools that expect raw, uncompressed pixels.

Opens in Paint, Photos, Preview, most image editors and browsers

Questions

How do I convert HEIC to BMP?

Drop your HEIC file on this page, or choose it. Anyfile converts it on your device in a moment and the BMP downloads straight away. To change it first, open it in the photo editor.

Is my HEIC file uploaded anywhere?

No. The file is read and converted by your own browser, and nothing is sent to a server. You can check: open your browser’s developer tools, go to Network, and convert a file. No upload appears.

Is my location removed?

Yes: the BMP is saved without camera details, so the location isn’t in it.

Can I convert several HEIC files at once?

Yes. Drop them together and you get one ZIP with every BMP inside.
