1. The Service

Anyfile is a browser-based tool, made and operated by Pranav Goswami (“Anyfile”, “we”, “us”), for opening, editing, converting and creating files (the “Service”). The Service runs in your web browser: your files are processed on your device and are not uploaded to us. How we handle information is described in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms.

You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age in your country) to use the Service. If you use it on behalf of an organisation, you confirm you’re authorised to accept these terms for it.

2. Your files and your responsibility

You keep all rights to your files. We don’t claim any ownership of what you open, edit or create, and we never receive it.

You are solely responsible for the files you open, the changes you make, the files you create, and how you use, share or rely on any result. Because your files never reach us, we don’t review, monitor, verify or approve them, and we have no knowledge of, or control over, what you do with them. Anyfile is not a party to, and accepts no responsibility for, any document, image, record or other content made or changed with the Service, or any use of it by you or anyone else.

You confirm that you have the right to open and change every file you use with the Service, including any rights needed from its owner or from people who appear in it.

Editing and converting files can change or lose information (for example, saving in another format, compressing a picture, or editing a document an app wrote in its own way). Check your results before relying on them, and keep a copy of your original files.

3. Acceptable use

You agree not to use the Service, or anything made with it, to:

  • Forge, falsify or alter any document, record or image in order to deceive anyone, including identity documents, certificates, licences, contracts, invoices, receipts, bank or financial records, academic, medical, legal or government documents, or evidence.
  • Commit or assist fraud, scams, impersonation, money laundering, tax evasion or any other unlawful act.
  • Infringe anyone’s copyright, trademark, privacy, publicity or other rights, including removing or altering rights information, watermarks or attribution you’re not entitled to change.
  • Create, edit or share content that is illegal, sexually exploits or endangers children, depicts real people in sexual or degrading ways without consent, or harasses, threatens, defames or discriminates against anyone.
  • Create or spread malware, or files designed to attack or damage people’s devices or systems.
  • Interfere with the Service, including probing or bypassing its security, overloading it, sending automated or bulk requests to its counters or request box, or accessing parts of it that aren’t meant for you.
  • Copy, resell, or build a competing service from the Service’s code, design or content, except as open-source licences allow.
  • Break any applicable law or regulation, including export controls and sanctions.

If you misuse the Service, you alone are responsible for the consequences, and we may cooperate with lawful requests from authorities.

4. Our software and brand

The Service, including its software, editors, design, text, graphics and the Anyfile name and logo, belongs to us or our licensors and is protected by law. We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the Service for its intended purpose, under these terms. Open-source components are licensed under their own terms (see section 13).

5. Requests and feedback

Format requests and any feedback you send are voluntary and anonymous. We may use them to improve the Service without any obligation to you, and we don’t promise to build anything that’s requested.

6. Availability and changes

Anyfile is under active development. We may add, change, limit or remove editors, formats or features, or stop the Service, at any time and without notice. A format marked “Available now” has been tested by us, but that doesn’t guarantee every file of that kind will open or save perfectly. We don’t guarantee the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free or available in every browser.

7. No warranty

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE”, WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING ANY WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, ACCURACY, OR THAT FILES WILL BE PRESERVED, COMPATIBLE OR FREE OF ERRORS. YOU USE THE SERVICE AT YOUR OWN RISK.

8. Limitation of liability

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, ANYFILE AND ITS OWNER WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF DATA, FILES, PROFITS, REVENUE, BUSINESS OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO THE SERVICE OR THESE TERMS, HOWEVER CAUSED. IN PARTICULAR, WE ARE NOT LIABLE FOR ANY CONTENT YOU OR OTHERS CREATE, EDIT OR SHARE WITH THE SERVICE, OR FOR ANY FRAUD, FORGERY, INFRINGEMENT, MISUSE OR UNLAWFUL ACT COMMITTED BY ANY USER.

OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS RELATING TO THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US TO USE IT IN THE TWELVE MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM (THE SERVICE IS FREE, SO THIS IS ZERO) OR USD 50, WHICHEVER IS GREATER.

Some places don’t allow certain limits on liability, so some of these limits may not apply to you. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can’t be limited by law.

9. Indemnity

You agree to defend, indemnify and hold harmless Anyfile and its owner from any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, costs and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of the Service, the files and content you open, create, edit or share, your breach of these terms, or your violation of any law or anyone’s rights.

10. Suspension and ending

You can stop using the Service at any time. We may block or limit access to the Service for anyone who breaks these terms or misuses it, without notice. Sections 2, 3, 7, 8, 9, 11 and 12 continue to apply after you stop using the Service.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of India, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the competent courts in India, unless the law of your country requires otherwise.

12. General

These terms and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between you and us about the Service. If any part is found unenforceable, the rest stays in effect. If we don’t enforce a right, we don’t waive it. You may not transfer these terms; we may transfer them as part of a reorganisation or sale. We may update these terms by posting a new version here with a new date; continuing to use the Service means you accept the updated terms.

13. Open-source software

Anyfile is built with open-source software, including CodeMirror, marked, DOMPurify and gifenc, used under their licences. Their copyright notices and licence texts are available in full in the open-source notices.
