The older binary Excel format, the default from Excel 97 until Excel 2007 moved to XML. Each sheet holds at most 65,536 rows and 256 columns.

A plain-text table where tabs, not commas, divide the columns. Because commas inside values need no quoting, it suits text-heavy data such as addresses or descriptions.
