When to use TSV: Copying tables between apps and exporting data from databases and research tools.
Open the file in the spreadsheet editor to choose before downloading:
.csv
Rows of plain text where each value is separated by a comma, as described in RFC 4180. It stores data only: no formulas, formatting or extra sheets.
Moving tables between spreadsheets, databases and programs.
Opens in Excel, Numbers, Google Sheets, LibreOffice, any text editor
About CSV files.tsv
A plain-text table where tabs, not commas, divide the columns. Because commas inside values need no quoting, it suits text-heavy data such as addresses or descriptions.
Copying tables between apps and exporting data from databases and research tools.
Opens in Google Sheets, Excel, LibreOffice Calc, Numbers and text editors
