How to split a PDF into separate files
Drop the PDF on Anyfile’s Split a PDF page and a ZIP downloads with every page as its own PDF, numbered in order. To split every 2, 5 or 10 pages, or to save only some pages, open the PDF in the PDF editor instead.
Step by step
One PDF per page
Go to Split a PDF and drop the file on the drop card. When it says Done, a ZIP of the pages is in your downloads; open it to find each page as its own PDF.
Every few pages
Drop the PDF on the PDF editor and choose Edit file. Open the arrow next to Download, set Save as to Several PDFs, in a ZIP, then choose Every 2 pages, Every 5 pages or Every 10 pages, and press Download.
At chosen pages
To start a new file at particular pages, select those pages in the sidebar (Command or Ctrl to pick several), then choose Before each selected page under Split. Each selected page begins a new PDF.
Just a few pages
Select the pages you want in the sidebar (Shift picks a range) and click Extract in the toolbar to save them as a new PDF. Or delete the pages you don’t want and press Download.
Nothing is redrawn: each page is copied as it is, so text stays selectable and pictures keep their quality. Links, bookmarks and form fields on each page come along, and fonts and pictures that only deleted pages used are left out, so the parts add up to less than you might expect.
Nothing is uploaded: your browser reads the file and makes the new one on your device. See how it works, and how to check.
Other ways to do it
On a Mac. Open the PDF in Preview, show the thumbnails and drag a page out of the sidebar onto the desktop: it becomes a PDF of that page. For a range, choose File › Print, set the pages and pick PDF › Save as PDF.
On Windows or a Chromebook. Open the PDF in Chrome or Edge, choose Print, pick Save as PDF or Microsoft Print to PDF, and type the pages you want. The new PDF is a reprint: links, bookmarks and form fields are usually lost.
Command line. qpdf and pdfseparate split PDFs precisely and are free, for anyone comfortable in a terminal.
When Anyfile is quicker
To pull out one page, the print trick is fine. Anyfile is quicker for every page or every few pages in one go, for files over a hundred pages, and when the parts must keep their links, bookmarks and fillable fields.
Questions
Can I split a PDF every 2, 5 or 10 pages?
Yes. Open it in the PDF editor, set Save as to Several PDFs, in a ZIP, and choose how to split it.
Does splitting reduce the quality?
No. Pages are copied as they are, not printed again, so text and pictures are untouched.
Can I split a password-protected PDF?
Yes. The PDF editor asks for the password, which stays on your device, before it splits the file.
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. It’s split in your browser, on your device; nothing is sent to a server.
