Guide
How to merge PDF files into one
Open the first PDF in Anyfile’s PDF editor, click Add files to bring in the others (PDFs or pictures), drag the pages into order and press Download. The merged PDF is made on your device, so nothing is uploaded and there’s no limit on how many files you add.
Step by step
Open the first PDF
Go to the PDF editor, drop the PDF that should come first and choose Edit file. Its pages appear in the sidebar.
Add the others
Click Add files in the toolbar (or Pages › Add PDFs or pictures…) and choose the rest, or drop them straight onto the editor where they should go. They go in after the selected page, and a message says how many pages were added.
Put the pages in order
Drag pages up and down the sidebar, or switch to the grid to see them all at once and drag several together. Delete any you don’t need, and turn sideways pages with Rotate.
Download the merged PDF
Press Download. The file keeps the first PDF’s name; rename it in your downloads if you like.
The first PDF is the base, so its bookmarks, form, title and other details carry over. Pages from the PDFs you add bring their own links and form fields, but not their bookmarks, and fields on those pages can’t be filled in. Fonts and pictures that several pages share are stored once, so the merged file isn’t needlessly big.
Pictures work too: any photo or scan becomes a page of its own shape. To make a PDF from pictures alone, combine photos into one PDF is quicker. A password-protected PDF you add asks for its password first.
Nothing is uploaded: your browser reads the file and makes the new one on your device. See how it works, and how to check.
Other ways to do it
On a Mac. Open the first PDF in Preview, choose View › Thumbnails, then drag the other PDFs into the sidebar where they belong, and save. It’s quick and keeps the pages as they are.
On Windows. There’s no built-in way to merge PDFs. Acrobat’s Combine Files does it, but it’s part of the paid plan; the free Reader can’t.
Command line. qpdf and pdfunite merge PDFs exactly and are free, if you’re comfortable in a terminal.
When Anyfile is quicker
On a Mac, Preview is about as quick. On Windows, a Chromebook or a phone, Anyfile is the quick way: no install, no account, no upload and no daily limit, and you can reorder, rotate and delete pages before you save.
Questions
Is there a limit on how many PDFs I can merge?
No set number. Each PDF can be up to 300 MB, and the work is done by your device, so very large sets take a little longer on older phones.
Can I merge pictures and PDFs together?
Yes. Any picture the photo editor opens, such as JPG, PNG or HEIC, becomes a page.
Will the merged PDF keep its bookmarks?
The first PDF’s bookmarks are kept. PDFs you add bring their pages, links and fields, but not their bookmarks.
Are my files uploaded?
No. They’re merged in your browser, on your device.
