How to turn a PDF into JPG pictures

Drop the PDF on Anyfile’s PDF to JPG page and a ZIP downloads with one JPG for each page. To choose the resolution or save only some pages, open the PDF in the PDF editor and pick JPEG pictures, in a ZIP when you download.

Open PDF to JPG

Step by step

  1. Open the converter

Go to PDF to JPG in any current browser.

  2. Drop the PDF

Drag it onto the drop card, or click Choose files. Every page is drawn as a picture on your device, and when the card says Converted to JPG, the ZIP is in your downloads.

  3. Open the ZIP

Double-click it on a Mac, or right-click and choose Extract All on Windows. The pictures are numbered in page order.

  4. Pick the resolution or the pages

Drop the PDF on the PDF editor and choose Edit file. Select pages in the sidebar if you only want some. Open the arrow next to Download, set Save as to JPEG pictures, in a ZIP, choose Screen (72 dpi), Standard (150 dpi) or Print (300 dpi), and The selected pages if you picked some, then press Download.

Standard (150 dpi) gives an A4 page about 1,240 by 1,750 pixels: right for slides, messages and most websites. Print (300 dpi) doubles that for printing or zooming in on fine detail, at about four times the file size. Screen (72 dpi) is for thumbnails and previews.

Want transparency or crisper text? Choose PNG pictures, in a ZIP instead, or PDF to PNG: PNG keeps lettering perfectly sharp, while JPG is smaller for pages full of photos. Anything you added in the editor, like text, a signature or highlights, is drawn into the pictures.

Nothing is uploaded: your browser reads the file and makes the new one on your device. See how it works, and how to check.

Other ways to do it

On a Mac. Open the PDF in Preview, choose File › Export, set Format to JPEG and the resolution, then Save. Preview exports one page at a time, so a long document takes a while.

On Windows. There’s no built-in export. The Snipping Tool captures what’s on screen, at screen resolution only, one page at a time.

Command line. pdftoppm from Poppler converts every page at any resolution in one command, and is free.

When Anyfile is quicker

For a single page on a Mac, Preview is fine. For a whole document, a chosen set of pages or print resolution, Anyfile is quicker: one drop gives every page, numbered, in one ZIP.

Questions

What resolution are the pictures?

Standard, 150 dpi, unless you choose otherwise in the PDF editor: Screen (72 dpi) or Print (300 dpi).

Yes, in the PDF editor: it asks for the password, which stays on your device.

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. The pages are drawn and saved by your browser, on your device.
