What changes from BMP to PNG

QualityNothing lost: PNG keeps every pixel
Colour depthSaved at 8 bits per channel
File sizeUsually smaller: PNG compresses more tightly than BMP

When to use PNG: Screenshots, logos, icons and graphics with sharp edges or see-through areas.

The two formats

.bmp

BMP imageWindows Bitmap

Microsoft’s bitmap format from the early days of Windows. It usually stores pixels uncompressed, so quality is exact but files are large.

Questions

How do I convert BMP to PNG?

Drop your BMP file on this page, or choose it. Anyfile converts it on your device in a moment and the PNG downloads straight away. To change it first, open it in the photo editor.

Is my BMP file uploaded anywhere?

No. The file is read and converted by your own browser, and nothing is sent to a server. You can check: open your browser’s developer tools, go to Network, and convert a file. No upload appears.

Can I convert several BMP files at once?

Yes. Drop them together and you get one ZIP with every PNG inside.
