What changes from OGG to OPUS

Sound qualityEncoded at 128 kbps, which most people can’t tell from the original
Tags and cover artTitle, artist, album and cover carried over where OPUS holds them; lyrics and some rarer tags aren’t yet
File sizeUsually smaller: OPUS compresses more tightly than OGG

When to use OPUS: Voice calls, voice notes and streaming, where low delay and small size matter.

The two formats

.ogg

Ogg audio

An open container from the Xiph.Org Foundation. An .ogg file usually holds Vorbis, a free lossy audio codec, though the container can carry other streams.

Game sound, open-source software and music where a royalty-free format is wanted.

Opens in VLC, Firefox, Chrome, Audacity, foobar2000

About OGG files

.opus

A royalty-free codec standardised by the IETF in 2012 (RFC 6716), usually stored in an Ogg container. It handles both speech and music well at very low bit rates.

Voice calls, voice notes and streaming, where low delay and small size matter.

Opens in Chrome, Firefox, Edge, VLC, Audacity

Questions

How do I convert OGG to OPUS?

Drop your OGG file on this page, or choose it. Anyfile converts it on your device in a moment and the OPUS downloads straight away. To change it first, open it in the audio editor.

Is my OGG file uploaded anywhere?

No. The file is read and converted by your own browser, and nothing is sent to a server. You can check: open your browser’s developer tools, go to Network, and convert a file. No upload appears.

Will I lose quality?

OPUS is a compressed format, and Anyfile saves at high quality, so the difference is very hard to notice.

Can I convert several OGG files at once?

Yes. Drop them together and you get one ZIP with every OPUS inside.
