How to turn a PowerPoint into a PDF
Drop the presentation on Anyfile’s PowerPoint to PDF page and a PDF downloads a moment later, one page per slide, with skipped slides left out. Each slide is drawn as a sharp picture, so it looks the same everywhere, but its text can’t be selected; for searchable text, use PowerPoint’s own export.
Step by step
Open PowerPoint to PDF
Go to PowerPoint to PDF. It takes .pptx, .ppt, .ppsx and .pps files, and OpenDocument .odp ones.
Drop the presentation
Drag it onto the drop card, or click Choose files. Each slide is drawn in your browser at 2,400 pixels across, from its own masters, layouts and theme.
Find the PDF in Downloads
When the card says Converted to PDF, the file is in your Downloads folder under the presentation’s name, ready to email, upload or print.
Include skipped slides, or fix one first
Open the deck in the presentation editor and make any changes. Then open the arrow next to Download, set Format to PDF, to share or print, and choose Include them under Skipped slides.
Because each page is a picture of its slide, the PDF looks exactly as the slide does in Anyfile, but its words can’t be selected, searched or copied, and screen readers can’t read them. Speaker notes, animations, video and sound don’t come across.
A few things are drawn from what the file saved rather than worked out again: charts from their saved values, SmartArt from its drawn shapes. Fonts that aren’t on your device are drawn in a similar one, and EMF or WMF pictures, common in decks made with older versions, show as grey boxes.
Nothing is uploaded: your browser reads the file and makes the new one on your device. See how it works, and how to check.
Other ways to do it
In PowerPoint. On Windows, File › Export › Create PDF/XPS; on a Mac, File › Save As with PDF as the format. The text stays selectable, and you can print speaker notes as notes pages.
Keynote and Google Slides. Keynote opens .pptx files and exports a PDF from File › Export To › PDF. In Google Slides, open the file from Drive, then File › Download › PDF Document; it’s uploaded first.
LibreOffice Impress. Free for Windows, Mac and Linux: File › Export As › Export as PDF, with options for notes and hidden slides.
When Anyfile is quicker
When you don’t have PowerPoint, or need a PDF from a phone or someone else’s computer, the converter is quickest and nothing is uploaded. When the PDF must have selectable or accessible text, or speaker notes, export it from PowerPoint, Keynote or LibreOffice instead.
Questions
Can I select the text in the PDF?
No. Each slide is a high-resolution picture, so it looks right everywhere but the words can’t be selected or searched. PowerPoint’s own export keeps them as text.
Are skipped slides included?
Not by default. In the presentation editor, choose Include them under Skipped slides before you download.
Can I get pictures of the slides instead?
Yes. In the presentation editor, choose Pictures of every slide (ZIP of PNGs) as the Format, or Picture of this slide (PNG) for just one.
Is my presentation uploaded?
No. The PDF is made in your browser, on your device, and the presentation never leaves it.
