How to open an ICS calendar file
Drop the .ics file on Anyfile’s calendar editor to see every event in a list or a month, without adding anything to your own calendar. You can change events, then save the file again or as a spreadsheet. To put the events in your calendar, import the file there.
Step by step
Open the calendar file
Drop the .ics on the calendar editor, or on the ICS page and choose Edit file. Invitations, booking confirmations and whole exported calendars all open.
Look through the events
List groups the events by day, with search and Hide past events. Month shows them on a calendar, with repeating events on every day they happen.
Change what needs changing
Select an event to edit its title, place, time, repeat and alert. Shift events… moves a batch by minutes, hours, days or weeks, and Remove past events clears out the old ones.
Save it, or take it to a spreadsheet
Press Download for the whole calendar. To send one event on its own, select it, open the arrow next to Download and choose its name under Events. Spreadsheet (.csv) as the Format gives a table for Excel.
Anything you don’t change stays exactly as it was, and an edited event is marked as updated the standard way, so calendar apps pick up the change when you import it again. All-day events stay all-day.
One thing to know: times in another time zone are shown at their own clock time, not converted to yours. A 9:00 meeting in New York appears at 9:00, so allow for the difference while you read.
Nothing is uploaded: your browser reads the file and makes the new one on your device. See how it works, and how to check.
Other ways to do it
Apple Calendar and Outlook. Double-click the .ics and it opens in your calendar app, which offers to add the events. Fine for an invitation; for a large file, it fills your calendar before you’ve seen what’s inside.
Google Calendar. On a computer, open Settings › Import & export, choose the file and the calendar to add it to. Making a new, separate calendar first lets you remove the lot in one go if it isn’t what you wanted.
A text editor. An .ics is plain text, so Notepad or TextEdit shows the events as lines like SUMMARY and DTSTART. Readable for one event, hard work for fifty.
When Anyfile is quicker
Anyfile is quicker for looking before you import, for fixing a file someone sent you, or for turning a calendar into a spreadsheet. If you just want an invitation in your calendar, double-clicking it is fastest.
Questions
Does opening it add events to my calendar?
No. The file opens on its own; your calendar doesn’t change until you import the file there.
Are repeating events shown?
Yes. Repeats appear on every day they happen in Month, and you can change a repeat rule when you edit the event.
Can I make a new calendar file?
Yes. Start from Blank calendar in New file, add events, and download an .ics any calendar app can import.
Is the calendar uploaded?
No. It’s read and saved by your browser, on your device.
