Free tool

Compress MKV

Anyfile makes a Matroska video smaller for free, right in your browser: nothing is uploaded. Drop it below and the smaller copy downloads at once.

Files are converted in your browser and never uploaded. By using Anyfile you agree to the Terms of Use.

What it does

Anyfile re-encodes the video at a lower bitrate with your browser’s own encoder, keeping its size, frame rate and sound. If the result wouldn’t be smaller, the original is kept and you’re told.

About MKV files

Questions

Will it still look good?

For phones, messages and the web, yes: it’s made to look clean at its size. Fine detail and fast motion lose a little sharpness, so keep the original for editing.

How much smaller will it get?

It depends on the MKV: phone recordings and screen captures often shrink by half or more. The card shows the new size before you use it.

Is my file uploaded?

No. It’s compressed in your browser, on your device; nothing is sent to a server.

Can I compress several at once?

Yes. Drop them together and choose Make it smaller: you get one ZIP with every smaller file.
